The Burroughs ICON Computer |
Before you begin you will need the following tools to assemble or disassemble the ICON.
Screwdrivers
This is disassembly but by reversing the steps you would naturally have assembly.
1.) Removal of the attached Monitor. Unplug the power and video cables from the back of the computer. Next remove the two screws from the computer plate. The top two screws are for a mounting plate on the monitor - it can be removed when you wish to work on the monitor. Next slide the monitor back to disengage the mounting pegs and lift up. |
2.) Removal of the pedestal back plate. Unscrew the three electrical Torx screws. One is in the middle of the back and the other two on the sides (one on each) Slide back the rear panel to disengage. |
3.)Removal of the cabinet screws. Undo the three electrical Torx screws on the underside of each side of the computer. There are two more electrical Torx screws on the underside at the front of the computer. |
4.) Removal of the faceplate of the floppy drive. (You may skip this step if there is no floppy drive.) First place a dummy 51/4" floppy in the drive and turn the locking lever. Next pull straight back to remove the locking lever. Next remove the four electrical Torx screws from the faceplate and lift off. |
5.) Removal of the upper portion of the case. Lift the top of the case carefully at the same time as you turn it upside down and to the right. There are several connections between the upper portion of the case and the bottom section. You may detatch some connections now but it is better to wait until step 9. |
6.) Removal of the power supply. The power supply is secured by three screws. Remove them. Unplug any connections to the motherboard and the floppy drive. (Don't forget the ground cables need to be disconnected as well.) Slide the power supply out of the rear of the computer case. |
7.) Removal of the pedestal frontplate. There are two screws on either side of the the pedestal frontplate. On the right they are metal and on the left plastic. Just ease them back, don't remove them. The front plate will just slide forward. |
8.) Removal of the floppy drive. (You may skip this step if there is no floppy drive.) The drive's connection to the motherboard should be disconnected now and the cable left attached to the floppy drive. There are two screws on either side of the floppy drive, remove them and lift the floppy drive out of the base of the case. |
9.) Removal of connections between top and bottom. This is the point were the remaining connections between the case parts should be disconnected from the motherboard. (Labeling the connections will save time when reattaching them during assembly.) The last connection (see detail) is the auxilary keyboard connection. To remove this connection, a wrench to hold the two interior nuts will ease the removal of the two Torx electrical screws. The case can now be separated. |
10.) Removal of the motherboard from the bottom of the case. The final step in the bottom of the case is the removal the motherboard. This is accomplished by pushing the locking mechanism on the twelve support pegs inward (see detail) and lifting carefully the motherboard. (Start on one side or the other and work towards the opposite side.) |
