Overview
realMYST is the original game of Myst converted into a 3D environment. Instead of the previous slide show form of Myst, realMYST will be a real-time game where the user can walk around freely and experience a more realistic and believable environment. Although at first it was thought that the game would lose it's artistic quality in three dimensions, we now know that the 3D environment will only make the game more enjoyable than it already is.

realMYST Information
- Release Date: The PC version in the United States and Canada has been released.
The release date above pertains to the PC version of realMYST in the United States and Canada. The Mac and European versions currently do not have set release dates. They will be released as soon as possible but release dates have not been announced.
The Mac version currently does not have a set release date. Cyan's chief technology officer, Brice Tebbs, said that "The Mac version... works [but] needs too much RAM right now. We are still trying to optimize [it] and are working with Apple on some stuff. We didn't want to delay the PC release... [because we want it] out for Christmas." Cyan expects to have the Mac version out as soon as possible.
The Europe version of realMYST also does not have a release date but it is said that it will be released in spring of 2001. Gordon Currie, The webmaster of the Riven Guild and the official Exile and realMyst sites, said, "I just got off the phone with my contacts at Mattel Interactive... RealMYST will be released in Europe but not until the Spring. This was an issue of distribution ... The game will be available in languages other than English." There is, however, a way to work around this. Eupeans may order realMYST from the either the United States or Canada and have it shipped to them around the world. The release will be the same but without languages other than English. Jim Stephenson, the web master of The Riven Unofficial Home Page, recently posted a review on the best online store to buy the US PC version realMYST from. In his report he said that he would recommend Outpost.com. He said he chose Outpost because it is reliable and ships world wide. But before you buy, make sure to visit Jim's "How to get realMYST if you live in Europe" web page as he has provided precautions and advice about ordering internationally.

The realMYST web site requires Quicktime 4 or higher and the Intel Indeo 5 Codec. Some people have been confused by a typo on one of Apple's pages which says you need QuickTime Pro in order to use Indeo 5. This is incorrect and Indeo 5 is available for both the regular version and the pro version of Quicktime. Also, the latest version of flash is recommended to see the site in it's completeness, even though there is a html version. [Quicktime | Indeo | Flash]
