Naria
and Eriya
Like
Van, Folken has his own catgirls who adore him and address his as "Lord".
Folken, however, tops his brother with TWIN catgirls as appose to just
one. They are Naria and Eriya.
Naria and Eriya are about 17 years old, I think. When they were little
they lived in the forest with their mother and father, near a village.
The villagers, however, hated the "beastmen", and burned down their home,
killing their parents. Naria and Eriya (which were not their names at the
time) were left to care for themselves, surviving only on the love that
they had for each other. The villagers soon realized that they had not
killed the two young catgirls, and went out to look for them. They eventually
found them and herded them towards the edge of a cliff. They were sent
falling to their doom. Luckily for them, a man with beautiful white wings
swooped down and saved them. Their instincts told them to bite him, but
he withstood the pain of their tiny fangs and promised them new luck. He
gave them new names. The twin with the silver hear was now known as "Naria",
and the other, with the golden hair, was now "Eriya".
From that day on, they served under Folken, training to become stronger.
They were very cocky and thought that their luck was invincible. However,
when the Dragon arrived upon the scene, they were forced to find a way
to increase their luck. Their entire bodies' blood was replaced with "lucky
blood" called FortuneBlood, making them virtually unbeatable. Although,
they seemed to lose their power when the sun is revealed.
Naria has an encounter with Hitomi when she tries to kidnap her and take
her back to Folken. But Hitomi's kindness and her ability to see the quality
in others caused Naria to doubt her actions a little, and in the end, she
didn't
take Hitomi to Zaibach.
The FortuneBlood had some nasty side effects. It caused Naria and her twin
to grow extremely weak, and in the end it was probably the thing that killed
them.
In the Cut version of Escaflowne, the editors were smart in taking out
certain parts that told us more about Naria and Eriya. If you've ever seen
the Uncut version, you know what I mean. Now, if you
like, you can keep reading, but what I'm about to say may offend some younger
readers. Read it at your own discretion:
In the uncut version, Naria and Eriya
have a close relationship. I mean, a really close relationship.
*cough* I mean, a relationship that is pretty much considered taboo in
our day and age. Do you get the picture? The editors were more or less
smart when they cut out the part from Operation Rule of Love when
Naria leaned over her sister in a suggestive way and wanted to kiss
Eriya to know what it tasted like to kiss Folken. That's the
kind of close relationship they have.
Apart from that, they are both in love with Folken. Folken, on the other
hand, is not in love with them but he cares for them deeply. It's almost
exactly the same as the relationship that Van has with Merle.
In the end, the
3 (naria, Eriya, and Folken) are reunited.
